Terran Princess –Earth Orbit

Johan Jarosz was surrounded by fawning supporters, eager to have him wave his hand or glance his eyes in their direction. It was the reason he had gotten into politics in the first place. He was a man who craved the center stage and needed the swooning crowds to recharge his energy. He would need all his energy today as he would be meeting with the representatives of the Vadne as well as Tonal systems to negotiate a deal. Secretly, he was meeting with a contact within the Vadne government who had a connection with the Brotherhood and who could help him work his magic with them. In the meantime, he would soak up the adulation of the masses and try not to be too arrogant for the cameras.

“Here we are,” the man began to his followers as his voice was amplified through the ship. “Here we are aboard the cradle of the revolution. Here we are aboard the very place where humanity threw off the shackles of alien oppression and I will personally make sure that never happens again.”

The cheers from the crowd grew deafening. Jacob held his hands out and waved over their heads. It was pure spectacle and he knew it. The Terran Princess had been acquired a year ago from the disaster that was Symphionics. The corporation had collapsed under the misguided direction of their former chairman and he had picked the company, and the ship, up for a song. When Tsarnov had suggested the meeting with the Vadne and the Tonal, he could see no better place to make his deal to ensure the success of the human race. It was symbolic of everything he had achieved to this point. Humanity would be led to a new golden age, protected by what he intended to be a big-league deal with the Brotherhood through a secondary messenger.

“Here we will reclaim our dominance over the galaxy,” Jarosz said as the crowd died down. “I will guide our people back to the stars on board the best ship in the galaxy. I love you all.”

Another roar echoed through the grand atrium of the ship as Jarosz was escorted behind the thick red curtains. Tsarnov was standing behind, wearing a wide smile which seemed out of place on his long face. Jacob wiped a bead of sweat from his forehead as the guards took up their positions to either side. Tsarnov stepped forward with his ever-present data pad in hand. He appeared distracted even through the happiness of his boss’s victory.

“What’s wrong Pietr? You look terrible,” Jacob said to his friend. “I’m about to make sure humanity never has to starve again. Why aren’t you as happy as I am?”

“I assure you I am,” the man said. “I am sorry I am not showing it, but I am reminded of those who once walked these halls and has been silenced. It distracts me.”

“I’m sorry Pietr,” Jarosz said, for the first time seeing his friend as a person with feelings.
